Virginia Beach — On a rainy morning last month, Cub Scout and his parents gathered at the Military Aviation Museum in the countryside of Virginia Beach to set up a small blue and gold free library where they could find books. Leave the book for someone else to discover and enjoy, as the philosophy of the non-profit book exchange program suggests.
Chartered by St. John of the Apostolic Catholic Church, Cub Scout Pack 179, Den 1, undertook the construction of the library as a project, a place to reach the rural people of the city and those who enjoy the museum, a popular family destination. I chose here.
The library is just to the left of the museum and Virginia Beach Airport accommodation entrance, just off Princess Anne Road. Located in an area called “Jurassic Park” featuring dinosaur sculptures, it is open to the public for free. Named after Jerry Jagen, the founder of the Aviation Museum.
“I think it’s a good place for kids to come here to see dinosaurs and museums,” said Michael Sladoki, one of Den’s leaders and Scout’s father, 9-year-old Dean. Told.
Due to the nearby sculptures the boys visited while their parents were finishing the library, the boys in Den 1 initially stocked many titles related to dinosaurs in the library.
“I have a book,” said 9-year-old Logan Hoy.
All boys did. They buried the library under the tent temporarily after the library stood on the stanchions and due to the weather.
“Dad, I’m glad we put it in the bag,” Nathan Santo, 10, told his father Tim Santo.
Protected some titles from the rain, but books are easier to keep clean than Cub Scouts.
“Liam, seriously, my buddy,” said Billy McAfee, whose son Liam, 9, was adventuring between dinosaur statues. “You are covered in mud.”
When the library was completed and stockpiled for those who came and enjoyed it, the boys and the den leaders took pictures with Mitchell Welch, the director of the Military Aviation Museum.
He was impressed with the new addition to Jurassic Park.
“You guys did a great job,” he told the scout. “Great and sturdy. Thanks for the help of adults.”
Pack 179, Den 1 includes Den leaders Tim Santo, Billy McAfee, Michael Sladoki, Scout Nathan Santo, Liam McAfee, Dean Sladoki, Logan Hoy, Nathan Fanelli, Mason Fanelli. Includes, Timothy Strozer.
