Tampa, Florida — For four consecutive days, hundreds of demonstrators went to the streets of Tampa to protest the Communist regime in Cuba.
It was the Cuban flag sea with a stable stream of chants and traffic horns along the Dale Maburi Highway and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
And because they also have dreams, the place wasn’t lost in a passionate group. A dream they have fought for over 60 years.
“They want freedom,” Angel Tur said. “They don’t want medicine or food. They want human rights. They want the basic human rights we enjoy in this country.”
Hundreds of people have gathered to march on Wikiversity’s historic 7th Avenue.
Jonathan Kosca remembers leaving Cuba at the age of 10 to escape the harsh reality of the island nation.
“They don’t have hot water, we have to get a lamp and heat the water with it,” Kosca recalls. “Every month, they only get a certain amount of food. It doesn’t matter if you run out, it doesn’t matter, there’s no food anymore.”
Kosuka said he was impressed by the ongoing protests in Tampa when he saw thousands marching in solidarity with the Cuban people.
“I shed tears because it hurts because my family is still there. I was very proud to be in Cuba when I saw everyone gathering.”
