Colorado Springs, Colorado-Academy District 49 Falcon High School hosted the first marching band showcase.

Bands from Falcon, Sand Creek, and Vista Ridge High School each joined in to play for friends and family and meet other bands in the front range area for the winter percussion season.

Later this year, musicians from each school will be merged into one “supergroup”, taking a year off for COVID-19 and then competing in both winter and spring.

Andrew King, band director at Vista Ridge High School, said he was excited to regain his passion with his students.

“It was a real blessing. The kids were especially hungry to return to the similarities of what was a marching band. It was really fun to be here with them. 100% of the time, they I was able to see the love and friendship of having friends, “King said.

On Wednesday, October 20, each school will participate in a band tournament in the Southern region to qualify for a state tournament.
