Weaver was 11 years old when he interviewed Obama for 10 minutes in the diplomatic room on August 13, 2009, asking questions primarily focused on education. He covered school lunches, bullying, dispute resolution, and how to succeed.

Weaver then asked Obama to become his “homeboy,” saying that then Vice President Joe Biden had already accepted.

“Absolutely,” said the smiling Obama, waving the boy’s hand.

He later used the conference to interview athletes like Oprah Winfrey and Dwyane Wade.

“He’s just a nice guy, real, and very smart,” Hardy said. “Very straightforward and outgoing. He never said no to anyone.”

Weaver made his start in fifth grade when he volunteered for a school newscast at KE Canal Point Elementary School in the farm community on the shores of Lake Okeechobee.

“Damon was a kid who chased me in the hall because he was interested,” his teacher Brian Zimmerman told the post in 2016. You could see his personality coming through. He wasn’t nervous towards the camera. “
