Palm Beach Gardens, Florida — Any form of exercise is good for us, especially as we grow older. At Palm Beach Gardens, weekly dance classes help participants strengthen their bodies and brains.

Mind. musics. Move. Three simple words that literally change your life.

Dance for liquidity is not your typical dance class. It is intended for people with neurological disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, or those with balance and movement problems.

Beth Elgort is the driving force behind this class and the non-profit organization Mind, Music, Movement Foundation.

“Oh, how did this start?” Elgoat said. “Ten years ago, my husband Steve was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, which was a shock to us. We were married for five years.”

A retired social worker, Ergoat soon became an advocate for her husband and others.

“He won’t give up and you can’t give up on your illness,” she said. “You have to move every day, and that’s really the way the beginning of what we’re doing today happened.”

Beth worked with medical professionals such as neurologist Dr. Linda Pore. He said the liquidity of movement helps to adjust.

“Dance is a fluid movement that requires a lot of adjustment and spatial awareness. It’s a great exercise if you can see yourself doing it,” says Ergoat. Said. “You can feel yourself moving.”

Ballet elements are woven into the class. Ballet Palm Beach professional dancers Shannon Murray and Libby Faber are specially trained to work with these students.

“It’s exciting. We always dance and love to do it. But delivering it to people is a different demographic, probably never danced, and a strong idea of what a dance is. I have. “Oh, I can’t dance. (I) show that I have two left legs and of course I can dance. You can dance if you have a body. Anyone can dance. “

“Listening to music does something to our brain,” Smith said. “Then, moving to that music does something else, just I know, it’s transforming. I completely believe it.”

“We offer a program that stimulates the brain to move you and make you enjoyable,” Ergoat said. “And the most important part is socializing. Everyone smiles and is happy.”

“You have an internal rhythm that has stopped and I think they have to restart it. I think that’s what Beth is helping us all,” Abeni said.

“I thought it was great,” said Marvin Kamensky. “I’m really sick. It’s hard to walk, but this helps.”

Until a cure for a disease like Parkinson’s disease was found, Steve Ergoat said such classes helped maintain a particular quality of life.

“Everyone is using the same drug that everyone has been using since 1955. The same, just more doses,” Kamensky said. “I’ve been doing this activity and I have this support and support, so I’ve kept my dosage down. It’s amazing how much I’ve retreated. I’m excited and crazy my wife. I love you as much as I can. “

Beth Ergoat summarizes it as follows: “Dance is a joy. Music is a joy. It’s all a joy.”
