Kansas City, Kansas (KSNW) – Pawnee County Law Firm said 42-year-old John Freeman Colt had been arrested. Law enforcement agencies will release more information later today.
Colt June 30 Escaped from Learned State Hospital. He was sentenced to five years in state prison on December 14, 2001 for four charges: exacerbation of sexual assault, attempted rape, exacerbation of robbery, and assault against law enforcement agencies. He was required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
After his sentence was over, Kansas courts considered him a sexually violent predator who was at high risk of committing future sex crimes and was too dangerous to release.
Investigators believe Colt planned an escape a few months ago and obtained a replica of his Staff ID.
Badge and dress clothes. On the morning of the escape, he shaved his long hair and beard. He put a blanket under the bedspread and made it look like he was still sleeping in bed. He was then able to convince the new staff (he targeted) that he was actually a new doctor and needed help finding his way. Under the guise of a doctor, Colt was able to pass through five safe doors and eventually get out of the gate.
