Dangers of black market COVID-19 vaccines – Cleveland, Ohio

Cleveland, Ohio 2021-05-04 18:42:28 –

Cleveland (WJW) – FOX 8I team I found a dangerous deal online in an ad I’m trying to get you to buy COVID-19 vaccine, A fake card indicating that you had a shot, or a fake document indicating that you tested negatively.

So we investigated and quickly discovered why you should be careful. You can find all of these deals advertised on what is called the Dark Web. In other words, it’s the back alley of the Internet.

The online black market exploded with an offer to sell the same life-saving drugs that could be shot for free at a nearby clinic. We have connected with Brian Linder of Check Point, an international cybersecurity company.

“It’s an absolutely profitable black market,” he said.

CheckPoint has been tracking this for several months. The ad offers vaccine vials for hundreds of dollars up to $ 1,000. Checkpoints are finding more ads, even though people are now able to take shots without reservations. So someone must be paying.

However, if you order online, you don’t know what you will actually get if you get something.

“We are not surprised by these ads we saw about vials. What is surprising is that by injecting this, everyone will endanger their own health and the health of their families.” Said Linder.

“We tried to buy a vial early on. We didn’t get anything. They took our money. I’ve never heard of them again.”

I replied to the ad by phone and email, but didn’t get a reply.

Dr. Amy Edwards gave us good old common sense advice.

“Well, there are a lot of dangers,” she said. She told us what, if any, you might receive by email.

“Most of the time it will be saline or saline, which is salt water. But there are crazy people. That they are not going to ship you more toxic than they can kill you. How can I find out? “Edwards said.

Investigators said it is illegal to sell the COVID-19 vaccine online. But if you are captured, don’t expect justice.

“No one can trust the dark web,” Linder said. He said CheckPoint saw the underground market begin to sell vaccines when it was difficult for most people to be shot.

Currently, the black market is promoting counterfeit documents showing fake test results and fake records of shots that people may need to travel or get a job.

Outside the Shot Clinic in downtown Cleveland, a woman from Cleveland Heights told me she had just received her first COVID shot. She responded to our findings on what is being sold on the web.

“It’s scary. It’s definitely scary,” she said.

And outside that same shot clinic, Jonathan Buffington said,

“I don’t get close to it. I think they just rob me of my money,” said Jonathan Buffington outside the Shot Clinic.

“These cybercriminals want to take advantage of vaccinated or unvaccinated civilians,” Linder said.
