Memphis, TennesseeWREG) – A woman accused of stealing her mother’s car and selling it for $ 500 was arrested Thursday afternoon in Covington.

Police said Covington police began investigating the 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo theft on March 6, 2022.

The victim told police that he was supposed to take his dog for a walk at the time and that the car was missing when he returned to his home at Cottonwood Place. Police said there was no forced entry into the house and the key was lost.

On April 24, Memphis police suspended traffic at the stolen Monte Carlo while driving North McLean from Poplar Avenue. The driver was arrested and charged.

Later, MPD and Covington police began a joint investigation into the case.

The driver later told Covington police that her boyfriend bought a car from a woman for $ 500, but she didn’t know her name.

Investigators have determined that the victim’s daughter, Jessica Beloate, was the one who sold the car to the driver.

Beloate, who lived in Drummonds, Tennessee at the time of the theft, was transferred to Covington police and interviewed. She denied her involvement in the theft of her car, but evidence of her case led to her arrest.

Beloate has been charged with property theft and crime simulations in excess of $ 1,000. She remains detained with a $ 5,000 deposit. She will appear in court on July 15th.
