Civil rights lawyer Ben Crump said at a 20-year-old funeral Thursday that Dawnte Wright’s life was important.

Hundreds of people gathered in the Minneapolis church repeated words several times after Crump.

Crump said he hopes Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison “will be able to get full justice in court.” Ellison, who was present, charged former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin. The jury confirmed that Chauvin was found guilty of murder in the murder of George Floyd on Tuesday.

Brooklyn Center officer Kim Potter shot Wright during a traffic outage on April 11. She was charged with manslaughter by a law firm in Washington County.

The Brooklyn Center police chief said he intended to use the Taser gun when Potter shot it with a service handgun when he released a body camera footage the day after the shoot. The light is black and the potter is white.

“How does America see our children?” Crump spoke from the front of the church and asked when he spoke to Wright’s mother, Katie Wright. “If (Potter) saw your child, Katie wouldn’t even reach for a taser gun as she saw her child. They have to give them to the world. I’m looking at the best and brightest things I have to do. “

Before Wright’s funeral began, his photo was played on a large screen in front of the Shiro Temple International Ministry. They showed him for years — with his family, and more recently with his two-year-old son.

Participants wearing face masks hugged and wiped their eyes before the funeral. Some wore shirts that declared “Justice for Dawn”.

Born October 27, 2000 in St. Paul, Wright moved to Minneapolis with his family at the age of seven. He played basketball at Edison High School in Minneapolis.

His son, Daunte Wright Jr., was born in 2019 and spent several months in the NICU because Wright was born prematurely.

Wright’s family described him as a joke star who loved July 4th when the whole family got together to light the fireworks.

“The role needs to be completely reversed,” Katie Wright shouted to the crowd. “My son should fill me.”

Among those who attended Wright’s funeral were Valerie Castile, whose son Philland Castile died after being shot by police during a traffic outage at Falcon Heights in 2016, and Gwen Carr, Eric Garner’s mother. Was filmed as “I can do it.” “Breathe in” in a fatal encounter with the New York Police Department in 2014.

Senators Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith, US Senator Ilhan Omar, Governor Tim Waltz, and Mayor Jacob Freimineapolis were also present.
