Brooklyn Center, Minnesota (AP) — A city on the outskirts of Minneapolis has agreed to pay $ 3.2 million to the family of Dantelite, a black man shot dead by police for confusing the Taser gun.

Wright’s family lawyer said Tuesday that the interim settlement also included changes in police policy and training, including traffic outages that could have resulted in Wright’s death.

“We hope that black families, people of color, and all residents will feel safer at the Brooklyn Center due to the changes the city must make to resolve our claims. Wright’s parents said NBC News.

Brooklyn Center officer Kimberly Potter, a white man, shot Wright in April 2021 after a 20-year-old child was stopped by an expired registration tag.

The former officer was subsequently convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to two years in prison.
