Washington, District of Columbia 2021-06-16 15:03:32 –
A prisoner in DC Prison has been elected to a government position.
Joel Caston is the new Advisory Board for District 7.
He was one of the five prisoners in prison who ran for that position.
“We all wrote down our ideas, platforms, and campaign objectives,” Caston said.
Caston represents some of the southeastern prison residents and nearby communities.
He told News 4 that he worked hard to win the vote.
Caston says the Correctional Bureau has provided him with an email address to help receive requests from members and connect with district government leaders.
“My number one job is to listen. One of my correct ideas in listening is to put together a survey that can be distributed throughout the facility, because my job is to be the voice of a silent person. “He said.
