Is Juneteenth a Federal Holiday in 2021?

Tuesday Senate Approved law to make it a federal holiday.. It is expected to pass the House of Representatives and go to President Joe Biden’s desk.

Juneteenth is now celebrated on June 19th each year in most states and DCs. This is a paid state holiday in Virginia, a commemorative holiday for the district and Maryland.

The Washington National Cathedral will be lit to celebrate the celebration of June 16th, from 9pm to sunrise, June 15th to 19th.

Moetella Juneteenth Weekend and Unityfest

Moechella, a group dedicated to preserving DC’s go-go music heritage and sharing its importance in black history, will host the weekend of June 16th on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

From noon to 8pm Saturday, join Moetella’s Unityfest and enjoy free music on two stages featuring Junkyard, EU feat Sugar Bear, TOB, Ambition, ABM and MTM. There are vendors, food trucks and kids heaven.

What is the Black Art Exhibition?

BlkArthouse hosts artwork by 19 black artists from around the world at the Eaton Hotel. You can attend the opening reception from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm on Friday, June 25th. Tickets start at $ 25.

One DC Juneteenth in Washington DC

ONE DC celebrates June 16th and the reopening of the Black Workers and Wellness Center, Anacostia’s community-run space organized for racial and economic justice. Their June celebration will include a tour of the building, live music by local artists, food vendors, mutual aid, and community-based booths. You can access the Black Workers and Wellness Center from 11am to 5pm. Here..

2nd Juneteenth Slide and Run

This half marathon takes participants along the entire Civil War defense of the Washington Trail. Runners can choose between two distance options. To celebrate June 16th, runners can participate in a 10K or half marathon.

Bikers can ride 6.19 miles in solidarity to represent the date of June 19th. Following the 6.19 group ride, riders have the option of traveling longer distances by joining either the 18-mile group or the 65-mile group. Together, these distances represent 1865, the year the last enslaved people learned of the abolition.

Join us at this event at Fort Stanton Park early Saturday or Sunday morning. Admission is free, but registration is required before the event.

Juneteenth Jubilee Homecoming

Organized by Juneteenth Jubilee, this march is an event for Black Conservative candidates and their supporters. It starts at 12:00 pm at Freedom Plaza. Registration is required.

Prince George’s County Juneteenth Hybrid Festival
Virtual and face-to-face events in different locations
June 14-19

Prince George’s County Parks and Recreation Department hosts virtual art exhibitions, panel discussions, and face-to-face celebrations at the Montpelliers Center, Ridgeley Rosenwald School, and Oxon Hill Manor. Events are free, but some require registration.

Laurel City Juneteenth Celebration

The city of Laurel is hosting guest speakers, Malcolm X drummers and poetry readings to celebrate June 16th. You can attend the Laurel City Center Council Hall at 12:00 pm. The Juneteenth program can be seen live in the city. Facebook page.

Outdoor Juneteenth Musical Celebration

June 17, 5:30 pm and 7:00 pm

Part of the classical movement The sound of hope and harmony This outdoor musical celebration of the series Juneteenth features singers, dancers, pianists and speeches at Rectley.

Concerts are at 5:30 pm and 7:00 pm. The ticket is $ 42.

“Tell Me Your Name” Tour at Carlyle House
121 N Fairfax St, Alexandria, Virginia
June 18

The staff at Carlyle House Historic Park organizes tours that focus on the experience of the enslaved community at Carlyle House and his plantations in Alexandria. Guided tours explore the historical background of slavery in Alexandria in the 18th century and the importance of ongoing research efforts to connect with descendants. Reservations are required as space is limited. This tour will include COVID procedures, including masking and social distance.

The ticket is $ 10. This tour can be visited at Carlyle House from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm on June 18th.

June 16th Celebration at the First Baptist Church
450 Orchard Street NW, Vienna, Virginia
June 19th, 11am to 3pm

This celebration includes live music, children’s performers, citizen groups, food trucks, and children’s book gifts. Some craft vendors focus on black-owned businesses. The First Baptist Church will host a COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic during the event.

June 16th Celebration at Idary Park
60 Ida Lee Dr NW, Leesburg, Virginia
June 19th from noon to 6:00 pm

Created by the “BURG” Family Reunion Club, this event at Leesburg’s Idley Park includes guest speakers, musical activities including the Chuck Brown band, food and craft beverages.

This event is free and open to the public.

Juneteenth-Liberation at Culpeper
N Blue Ridge Avenue, Culpeper, Virginia
June 19th, 4 pm-8pm

This event at the historic Culpeper celebrates and unites the black community. DJs, moon bounces, water activities, basketball tournaments, community raffles, giveaways and more.

You can attend the celebration at Yowell Meadow Park between 4pm and 8pm.
