A man in Tarsa, who was drunk and caused a clash, killed one man and seriously injured another, was found guilty in federal court today, US federal prosecutor Clint Johnson said.
Redex Lester Jr., 54, pleaded guilty to being seriously injured in India after a second murder and assault in India.
On the evening of May 25, 2020, Leicester Jr. drunk and drove, exceeded the speed limit, and hit another vehicle head-on. Wayne Thomas, a passenger in another vehicle, was injured and died three days after the crash. Another man suffered extensive serious injuries. At the time of the collision, Leicester Jr. was driving with a suspended license and had a blood alcohol level of .239.
Previously, the defendant was convicted by the DUI state in 1992, 1994, 2005, and again in February 2020. Leicester Jr. was sentenced to six months in prison for drunk driving in February 2020. On May 25, 2020, a drunk driving clash and death occurred within four months of Leicester’s still state supervision.
“Redex Lester Jr. chose to drive drunk again and again. His reckless behavior killed a man and seriously injured another,” said Deputy US Attorney General. Clint Johnson said. “Thanks to the work of US Federal Attorneys Chantelle Dial and Christopher Nassar, the defendant was held liable for this tragic loss of life.”
The FBI and Tulsa Police Department conducted the investigation. Assistant Federal Attorney Chantel D. Dial and Christopher J. Nasser have charged the case. Dial is a public prosecutor at the Federal Attorney’s Office in the Western District of Washington. She said she would support prosecution here in northern Oklahoma as Native American victims or defendants were involved and increased jurisdiction over crimes occurring within the Mascogie (Creek) Nation and Cherokee Nation Reservation. I volunteered. Dial recently extended another six months to support the mission.
