Denver7 Gives Fund raises $1,500 for children of murdered Aurora parents – Aurora, Colorado

Aurora, Colorado-Sammy Heckerman and his family turned the world upside down this summer.

“It was hard because my sister and brother-in-law weren’t here to make us laugh. There were good and bad days, but we’re trying to make our kids happy,” Heckerman said.

Heckerman’s sister and brother-in-law, Josline and Joe Roland, were killed on August 14 in an attempt to buy a car they found in an online app. Aurora police arrested 18-year-old Kylie Brown, who was charged with attempting to rob Roland before killing him.

“The next hearing is in February. Currently he is in custody without bail,” Heckerman said.

Joe and Josline left five children between the ages of 18 and 4.

“They are very strong. They are always talking heartily about their parents, so they feel like they are doing well,” Heckerman said.

Immediately after the death of his parents, the family moved the youngest of the four to the hometown of Joslein, Ohio, where the children were surrounded by the family.

“They live with my sister, brother-in-law and their two children. They recently moved to a nice big house that fits all eight comfortably,” Heckerman said. I did.

Thanks to the generosity of Denver7 viewers, children can start a new life with the $ 1,500 raised through the Denver7 Gives Foundation. The money goes to the trust of all five children.

“It’s incredible support. It’s heartwarming,” Heckerman said. “I don’t think it would have been possible without the community.”
