San Andreas (CBS13) —The hostage incident in San Andreas ended with a shooting of adjutants and hostages, and the suspect was killed, officials said.
According to the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began shortly after 10:30 pm after a dispatcher received a call at the Sierra Inn Motel in San Andreas about a discussion between men and women.
During the incident, the man allegedly pointed his gun at the woman’s head. However, the suspect had left by the time the legislator arrived.
Then the search started. According to the sheriff’s office, the suspect ambushed an adjutant interviewing the victim near an apartment complex along 500 blocks on Lewis Avenue, and the suspect shot and killed the adjutant. The adjutant and the woman were able to go safely.
After that, lawmakers and other law enforcement officers responded and began searching for apartments. Eventually, the suspect emerged from an apartment holding an elderly woman held hostage by a gun.
An attempt was made to deescalate, but the suspect reportedly refused the order. He was then fired with both the suspect and the hostage injured.
The suspect was sentenced to death on the scene, the sheriff’s office says. His name has not been announced at this time.
The injured hostage was taken to the hospital by ambulance. Her condition was not stated.
The first lieutenant shot by the suspect is expected to survive.
Investigations by multiple institutions are currently underway.
