Denver — Mills Navalet’s first ride in his youth life took place on Friday at Lakeside Amusement Park. Tradition is now passed down for four generations.
“He’s experienced what I’ve done before, what my parents have, and my daughter,” says Mills’ grandfather Frank Navalet.
Mills’ mom, Alyssa, didn’t expect it to happen this summer.
“I thought I had to wait until next year, to be honest,” Alyssa Navarret said.
Mills ride operator Jesse Senna is one of more than 100 employees who played a key role in reopening the gate.
“It’s pretty hard to see everyone smiling and the little ones smiling,” Senna explained.
Brenda Fishman, who is abroad in the park, can say that it was not easy to reach this point.
“We did a lot of hard work, with enough help, acquired people and trained people,” Fishman told Denver 7.
In late May Denver7 reported unable to open a historic amusement park No one applied, so it was as planned.
“I think it’s time … and the words came out and the kids graduated from school. They realized it was summer and started applying,” Fishman said.
This is part of the growth trend of the low-wage industry, which has seen a significant surge since the sharp drop in April 2020. Recently, the State Department of Labor has stated that the number of jobs in the arts, entertainment and recreation industries has increased by 3,300. June. Amusement parks like Lakeside fall into that category.
Even with more workers, the pandemic presents other challenges. There are some new vehicles in the park, but I’m having trouble fixing some of the old ones because the parts to fix them haven’t arrived on time. Even popcorn and hot dogs are different.
“It’s crazy. People are out of the way they never go out. I’ve been doing this for decades. I’ve never experienced these problems. Find the hot dogs we usually buy Can’t. They just don’t exist .. I had to buy another. I had to buy another popcorn, “Fishman explains.
There are challenges, but new customers like Esmeralda Garcia don’t care. A girl in the Lakeside area visits the park for the first time. That’s all that matters to moms and dads.
“We were waiting for it to open. I didn’t know if it would open, but I’m glad it opened,” said Jasmine Garcia, Esmeralda’s mother.
Lakeside has consolidated its business hours, partly due to a shortage of employees. For now, we plan to keep it open all week except Tuesday until August 20th. It may remain open on weekends, weeks after Labor Day.
The park still needs employees. If you want to apply click here..
