Omaha, Nebraska (KMTV) — Whether you’ve been calm for a while, have a break from alcohol, or supported your loved ones Detox sober lounge Open to you.
Omaha’s first and only sober lounge provides a place to enjoy while finding support for those who participate in sober October.
The sober October began seven years ago in the United Kingdom and was originally a fundraising campaign to support McMillan cancer. This is an ongoing fundraising activity.
People around the world are now participating in the sober life month as a way to improve their health, embark on a drinking journey, and assess their relationship with alcohol.
Alexis Lawson, owner of the Detox Sober Lounge, knows that drinking is easier if you don’t do it alone.
“Fellowship is very important when trying to cut it out of life. You have to be around like-minded people,” Lawson said.
Lawson has been calm for four years. She started the lounge as a pop-up concept before finding a permanent home on the 72nd.
“I got these moments of delight. It’s like gratitude to see everyone playing in the pool, playing darts, and having a good time calm down. . “
The lounge has several events planned for October, including the Octsoberfest on Saturday night.
“For us, some EDM DJs came in and spun some tracks, which would be great,” Lawson said.
While they are having fun, staff (many of them are recovering on their own) say their mission is still to provide a safe and supportive space.
“We are still here for those seeking recovery. If you have any questions, our staff will be happy to help,” Lawson said.
The lounge is currently raising funds to operate the kitchen so that it can serve meals to its patrons.
The lounge is open every Friday and Saturday from 5 pm to 2 am and every other Thursday from 7 pm to midnight.
We also host a women’s empowerment group every Tuesday from 7pm to 8pm.
