According to the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Management (DHEC), Florence County, South Carolina (WBTW) — Multiple people and pets were exposed to rabies puppies in Florence County.
According to DHEC, the puppy was found in Edgefield County near Johnson’s Lanier Road and tested positive for rabies. The puppy lived in Augusta, Georgia from July 14th to July 17th. The puppy was brought to Florence on July 17th.
At least 25 and 6 dogs were exposed, according to DHEC. People are referred to their health care providers and dogs are quarantined.
“Keeping your pet up to date with rabies vaccination is the easiest way to protect you and your family from this deadly virus,” said Terry McAllister, rabies program team leader.
