Sacramento (CBS13) — More and more older people are receiving a second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
It’s an emotional moment with a desire for normality, but doctors warn that they don’t have time to loosen their social distance and may be wearing a mask longer than expected.
CBS13 spoke with Laura Ferguson, who lives in Solano County and lives a fully vaccinated life.
“It’s like a weight lifted. I don’t feel like paranoia, like,’Well, stay away from me,'” Ferguson said.
She took her second dose on February 12, waited a week, and finally planned to meet her son and his family.
“I bought a barbecue, came in, hugged me, and hugged me for a minute,” Ferguson said.
It’s a great emotional release, but Ferguson said she would pay attention to warnings from doctors.
The Sacramento County Health Department said both doses of people could still be infected with the virus, but the infection was less serious. “Everyone will need to stay at a social distance, wear a mask, and continue to use hand sanitizers for a few more months until they are vaccinated,” a spokeswoman said.
“At first I thought it was all treatments, but I realized that it was just an additional step to ensuring safety,” Ferguson said.
Infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci said Americans may still be wearing masks until 2022, or until the infection rate is low enough.
“It’s never zero, but it’s a minimal threat to someone infected,” Forch said.
Dr. Dean Brunberg, an infection expert at the University of California, Davis, said currently available vaccines may not be able to completely protect against coronavirus variants that have emerged worldwide.

“Therefore, if these variants can significantly escape vaccine-induced immunity, they can be renewed in the same way that they receive a new influenza vaccine each year,” Blumberg said. ..
Laura said she would enjoy her new sense of freedom from behind the mask.
“I feel like I can do more than I used to,” Ferguson said.
