Lincoln, Nebraska (KMTV) — The Nebraska unicameral system seemed to be listening through a new parliamentary map that would maintain the entire Douglas County after hearing the public.
The new map holds the entire Douglas County in the Second Protectorate District, represented by Congressman Don Bacon.
It also includes the entire Saunders County and the western half of Sarpy County, where Papillion and Gretna will be with Omaha.
Senator Mike Hilgers was pleased to close some deals, but that wasn’t a matter of course.
“This was something we had never done in Nebraska, and there were at least unresolved questions about whether we could complete this task in a special session,” he said.
District 1 has changed a bit with what looks like everything in Bellevue and La Vista, but Lincoln, Columbus, Norfolk, and Fremont are with current Congressman Jeff Fortenbury.
Senator Justin Wayne, Vice-Chairman of the Constituency Change Commission, wanted to maintain the entire Sarpy County and District 1.
“The most direct route was via Sarpy. Most of the time they heard they wanted to keep the whole Sarpy, but they could. I got to the floor and badgers on everything. And I’m not going to keep things going, “Wayne said.
Currently, the legislature still needs to know the legislative district, and discussions about it will probably be in the evening.
