Downer Classic, one of Wisconsin’s most popular criterium races, was canceled in late March of this year due to an uncertain pandemic trajectory. The race has been returned to the book with some changes.
Otto Wens Cafe Hollander Downer Classic will take place on Thursday, June 24th. Traditionally, the race was held on Saturday, but the excitement of local businesses on Downer Avenue cannot be stopped.
“Breadsmith is excited to be part of a community that hosts events like the Downer Classic. We’re excited to have this event again this year,” said Isaac Godin, Operations Manager, Breadsmith. Says. “This is a great event where our community can come together and watch professional and amateur cyclists race in Downer.”
The entire day of the race also features a Belgian beer festival, dining and family fun. There are also racing events for children who are required to wear a helmet, and there is a registration area near Pizzaman for parents to sign a waiver of participation.
