Dr. Weston on Omicron – “A time for preparation” – Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Milwaukee – The best medical adviser in Milwaukee County says people should pay attention to the new COVID mutant of concern, Omicron.

But he doesn’t think people should be surprised.

“I’m worried, but I don’t think it’s definitely a panic time,” Dr. Ben Weston told WTMJ on Tuesday. “It’s time to prepare.”

He says the best way to prepare is still to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

“It’s up to scientists and health authorities to prepare for the effectiveness, infectivity, and severity of the vaccine,” said Dr. Weston.

“But the best thing you can do as an individual is to make sure that you are as protected as possible with vaccines and booster immunity.”

When it comes to Omicron, Dr. Weston says it’s best to focus on what we know and don’t know.

“Looking at South African data, it looks like it’s outperforming the Delta variant, which certainly suggests it’s more contagious,” said Dr. Weston.

“Now we don’t know if it’s more severe and how our vaccine will affect it.”
