It may look a little different this year, but ZooLights hasn’t been successful yet.
Portland, Oregon (KOIN) — Oregon Zoo’s annual Zoo Lights opened Saturday night.
The holiday tradition at Oregon Zoo looks a little different this year. The event became a drive-through experience.
Visitors must purchase a ticket before going. Tickets can be purchased at least 7 days in advance on the Oregon Zoo website.
ZooLights will be open until January 10th and will be open every night except Christmas.
This year, the zoo is adorned with lights of over 1.5 million colors.
The fate of the annual light display was uncertain after Governor Kate Brown announced a state-wide “freeze,” but the zoo provided additional guidance from the governor’s office to keep the event open for a drive-through experience. I said I received it.
“Everything was a little different in 2020, and ZooLights is no exception,” said zoo event manager Nikki Simmons. “Like most of this community, the biggest concern right now is to protect the health and safety of everyone. That the community was able to come up with a good way to enjoy this holiday tradition. I am grateful.”
The zoo will be shut down during the day and off-limits to walk-through visitors on November 18, when the entire state freeze began.
