KOIN, Oregon — A man armed with scissors was detained after crashing into a stranger’s house on a truck and fleeing in Multnomah County on Wednesday night, the agent said.

According to the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, witnesses reported seeing a reckless driver crashing a truck into a fence and then into the basement of SE Brafrod’s house near Pleasant Home. After that, the driver reportedly escaped from the scene.

Congressman found a suspicious driver about a mile away near SE30 2nd Avenue and Braflode. According to the sheriff’s office, he had “threatening” scissors.

A lawmaker said he had persuaded the man to drop the scissors and was taken to the hospital for a mental health check after being detained.

The homeowner was at home when the truck crashed into the basement, but was unharmed, the agent said.

It is unknown at this time whether the driver will be held criminally liable.
