TULSA, Oklahoma — A woman was not injured after being hit by a cicada on Interstate 44 early Wednesday morning.
The crash occurred on the westbound I-44 near 145th North and 161st East Avenues, where the Toyota Corolla was struck by a semi and jackknife into a concrete barrier.
Semi-truck drivers say they felt a jolt pulling the trailer against the wall while driving. The Corolla eventually got stuck under the Semi’s trailer.
Paramedics arrived on the scene and helped the woman escape safely. She was rescued with the help of the crew through the trunk of the Corolla.
Parts of I-44 were narrowed to one lane while crews were on site, but are now fully open for morning commuters on their way to work.
Crew members said the woman was not injured in the crash, but was taken to a hospital for a preventive check-up.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says the second semi-driver has footage of the crash and will use it in their investigation.
At this time OHP is still trying to determine the cause of the crash.
