Albuquerque, New Mexico (KRQE) – Sex trafficking is part of the Albuquerque criminal problem we rarely hear about. Local victim advocates are cracking down on traffickers and the state and urging law enforcement agencies to provide more resources to victims.
Christine Barber is part of Street Safe New Mexico, a non-profit organization that helps homeless and sexually trafficked women. “It was hard,” Barber said. “We went and worked with the women on the street from outside the town. It was really hard.” She looks back on the past few weeks when the state fair was held in the town. It brings hundreds of visitors, and according to Barber, it also brings at least 200 victims of sexual trafficking.
