GREENVILLE, S.C. (WSPA) – Upstate Duke Energy customers will immediately see their monthly bills increase after submitting their annual report to the South Carolina Public Service Commission (PSCSC) on July 29. may increase.
Once the PSCSC reviews and approves the annual report, customers will see an additional $15.75 to their monthly bill, spokesman Ryan Mosier said.
A typical customer’s monthly payments range from $119.32 to $135.07, according to Duke Energy.
Mosier said the annual adjustment offsets rising costs for the fuel used to power homes and businesses in South Carolina.
Mosier said the price increases aren’t permanent, and while some years have seen rates drop and customers get refunds, this year they’ve paid more for fuel.
Mosier said the cost of all fuels, including nuclear, renewables, hydropower and natural gas, has all increased.
In some cases, Duke Energy uses more of one energy source when the price of another energy source increases.
