New Orleans, Louisiana 2022-05-09 03:00:00 –

Ascension Parish baseball is doing well this spring, with two teams competing for the state tournament in Sulfur on Thursday.

Dutchtown Griffins (35-3) and St. Amant Gators (32-7) have won the quarter-final match and a semi-final match is scheduled. Three species, Dutchtown, dominated Central with scores of 3-2 and 6-1. Under the direction of Chris Schexnaydre, Griffins has become a model for this season’s consistency. They will return to the semi-finals for the first time in 12 years.

Dutchtown will face second-seeded West Monroe on Thursday at 6 pm. The St. Amant Gators did something unlikely in the quarter, they beat the top seeds.

St. Amant attended Barb High School and won two out of three games. They won 7-4 in Game 1, lost 5-0 in Game 2, and won 5-4 in Game 3. Brandon Bravata will lead the team to a semi-final match against fourth seed, Sulfur. It will be the home game of Sulfur playing at McMurry Park during the regular season. It shouldn’t offend the Gators as they have been combat tested.

Both semi-finals will be played at 6 pm. Ascension parish is often represented by sulfur. The victory by Dutchtown and St. Amant on Thursday set the All Ascension Parish final at 6 pm on Saturday. Whatever the outcome, baseball in Ascension Parish was great this spring. I will tell you that we will see better play in the future.
