After working for the East Point City Police (EPPD) for over 30 years, Chief Me Gardner has announced his retirement.

Gardner was hired on June 13, 1988 and will retire on July 1, 2021. Gardner was appointed police chief in 2014 and has held this position for seven years. During his time as Chief, he managed a support services department, a field operations department, a criminal investigation department and more than 170 employees in a city of more than 35,000 residents.

“We are in a position to avoid some of the best police officers in Georgia,” East Point Police Chief Me Gardner said in a press release. “Without the support of the mayor and council and the leadership of the mayor Frederick Gardiner, this would not have been possible. Moreover, without the care and constant support of my beloved wife, staff, officers, and communities. This was not possible. ”

Prior to working for law enforcement, Gardner graduated from Terrell High School in 1984 and served in the United States Marine Corps for three years. He received a Masterate in Public Administration from Columbus State University in 2000, a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Centleo University in 1993, and an Associate Degree in Applied Criminal Justice from Georgia Military College in 1988. I am currently working on getting a PhD. At the Restoration Theology Seminar.

During his tenure as Secretary Gardner, he served as a tremendous leader, serving as Interior Commander, Traffic Commander, Field Force Commander, and Special Operations Commander. Under his leadership, Secretary Gardner maintains state accreditation at the police station, develops an education incentive plan for police officers, and continues and wears an annual summer initiative program for young people. Implemented a tag reader for cameras, incentive cameras, and police. Pass two five-year strategic plans, including recommendations from the regional police and the 21st Century Police Task Force.

The development of Chief Gardner from Atlanta has supported his growth as a passionate, dynamic and tenacious innovator striving to solve problems and engage with the East Point community. Gardner has been married for 26 years and is the father of three beautiful girls.

The city of East Point is in the process of hiring a new police chief.
