Beni, Congo >> Residents of the city of Beni in eastern Congo have confirmed a new case of Ebola just five months after the country declared the end of the last outbreak that killed six people in the region. After receiving the, I expressed my concern today.
The case was registered in eastern Congo, according to the State Ministry of Health and the National Institute of Biomedical Sciences.
After exhibiting various symptoms associated with Ebola, a child nearly three years old was sent to Beni’s Bussiri Hospital. He died on October 6 and tested positive for Ebola, according to laboratories and ministries released Friday.
According to the ministry, about 100 people who may have been exposed will be identified and monitored.
Maurice Mutunga, a survivor of Ebola, hopes that the experience of this disease in Congo will help contain the epidemic quickly.
“Once the epidemic begins, people tend to ignore, minimize, and doubt the existence of the epidemic, and that’s what we’ve spent a lot of money on,” Mutsunga said. “People already have enough information about Ebola and believe that they can work with response teams to control the epidemic,” he added.
Although not optimistic, some are afraid that new outbreaks may occur as the healthcare system, which addresses other issues, is struggling.
“I’m worried and afraid, because with Ebola, COVID-19 (New Coronavirus Infection) And anxiety. I don’t know how to live in Beni. Beni can’t live anymore, “said resident Joel Mambo.
According to the World Health Organization, Bussiri is one of the epicenters of Ebola in eastern Congo from 2018 to 2020, the second most deadly in the world, and is believed to have killed nearly 2,300 people.
In a statement, WHO said it was working with local governments to investigate new cases of Ebola, adding that sporadic cases after an outbreak are not “unusual.”
It was not immediately clear whether the new case was associated with an outbreak in 2018-2020 or an outbreak earlier this year, which killed six people in a few months. Congo has recorded 12 outbreaks of Ebola since the virus was first discovered in a conflict-affected country in 1976.
