A 87-year-old woman was injured and killed in a house fire at her home in Westwood, Massachusetts, on Saturday afternoon.
Firefighters responded to the fire at their homes in the Washington and Lal Street areas after 12:00 pm on Saturday.
According to the Westwood Fire Department, Westwood Patrol Officer Joe Reached was the first person to arrive at the scene. A family waiting outside the house said it was too hot and too smokey to enter the house and bring back relatives.
Upon entering the house, Reich found an elderly woman on the floor of the kitchen area.
According to Westwood police, only women were in the house at the time of the fire.
Police declared she died on the scene.
“Trageously, the woman’s injury was visibly fatal, and despite the dangerous and heroic attempts to save her, the woman was valued and died at the scene of her injury. “It was declared,” Westwood Police Chief Jeffrey P. Silva wrote in an official statement.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. However, according to a preliminary investigation by the Massachusetts Police Department and the Massachusetts Fire Marshall Office, a fire began in the kitchen while the woman was cooking.
No further information was immediately available.
