Elyria, Ohio (WJW) – Fallout continues after local city council members were arrested Ohio’s largest trafficking sting operation..

Among the 161 arrests for prostitution puncture wounds announced Monday by Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost was Elyria city council member Mark Jesse.

“My reaction and everyone else in the council was just shocked. I’m just trying to worry about what’s happening over and over again,” said Vic Stewart, president of the Elyria City Council.

The 64-year-old city council member was one of the 14 suspects arrested in Elyria alone. It was all part of a state-wide activity called Ohio Knows last week, targeting people who buy sex, and in some cases minors.

“We have arrested contractors, city councilors, firefighters, teachers and professors,” Yost said at a press conference on Monday.

“From a council’s point of view, he will spend his days in court, and we will wait to see what those discoveries bring,” Stewart said.

According to Stewart, Jesse is an incumbent member of the Democratic Party’s Third District Assembly and has already voted for the November elections.

“That’s disappointing. The Elyria City Council doesn’t tolerate it. We don’t tolerate Jesse’s actions. He spends the day in court and we go from there,” Stewart said. ..

FOX 8 sought comment from Councilor Jessie. No phone calls or emails were returned. Elyria Mayor Frank Whitfield also declined to comment.

In addition to the arrest, the Attorney General’s office said the investigation helped recover 10 missing children.

“One of the things we don’t want to lose sight of is the victims who were part of it. We need to move them forward into our hearts and minds,” Stewart said.

According to court records, Jesse has been charged with solicitation and will appear in court on Wednesday.
