Michigan’s largest county turned around after the Republican Party first blocked its move in a party vote that could temporarily undermine Democratic Joe Biden’s official approval of the state’s victory in the presidential election. The result was unanimously proved.
Wayne County’s campaign committee acted after being accused by Democrats, election experts, and online spectators of the conference of a two-to-two tie as a dangerous attempt to overturn the will of voters.
The board met after days of unsuccessful proceedings filed by Republican pollster challengers and President Donald Trump’s allies. They alleged fraud while counting absentee votes at the Detroit Convention Center, but two judges found no evidence and refused to stop the solicitation process.
According to informal results, Biden crushed Trump in Wayne County, the home of the Democratic Party, by a 2: 1 margin, winning the state with 146,000 votes.
Election campaigners first refused to prove the vote in the Detroit region with a tie. Republican Monica Palmer said pollster books in certain Detroit districts were out of balance. In response, Democrat Jonathan Kinlock said it was “reckless and irresponsible” to not prove the results. “It’s not fraudulent. It’s definitely a human error,” Kinloch said of the contradiction. “The votes cast are tabulated.”
The board then spoke through Zoom to the audience criticizing Palmer and Republican William Hartman during the conference’s public comment.
Rev. Wendell Anthony, a well-known minister and head of the Detroit branch of the NAACP, called them “humiliation.”
“You extracted the black city from the county, and 80% of the people living here said that only the city of Detroit, which is African-American, is wrong. Shame on you!” Anthony said. ..
Certification of election results in each of Michigan’s 83 counties is a step towards state-wide certification by the Michigan Campaign Committee.
“I’m happy to see that common sense finally spread,” said Detroit mayor Mike Dagan. “Thanks to all the citizens for speaking so passionately. You made a difference!”
Labora Burns, chairman of the Michigan Democratic Party, called the first 2-2 vote draw “explicit racism.”
At least six proceedings have been filed in Michigan, with the latest proceedings landing in federal court on Sunday. However, there is no evidence of widespread fraud in US elections.
The issues raised by Trump’s allies are typical of all elections. Signatures, secret envelopes, postal mark issues on mail ballots, and a small number of ballots can be accidentally thrown or lost.
Joshua Douglas, a law professor at the University of Kentucky who teaches election law, said proof of results is usually a routine task. “We rely on democratic norms, including the willingness of losers to accept defeat. It seems to be collapsing.”
