Jackson, Miss (AP) —The US Department of Justice completes an investigation into the Lynch of black teenager Emmett Till in 1955.

The announcement was made on Monday after officials spoke to his relatives. Till was killed after witnesses said he whistled a white Mississippi woman.

After Till’s mother claimed an open casket, the killings activated the civil rights movement.

Two men were acquitted by a white jury. They died many years ago.

Authorities resumed the investigation after the 2017 book quoted Carolyn Bryant Donam as saying she had lied when Till claimed to have grabbed her.

The Justice Department says there is insufficient evidence to prove that Donam told the author that none of the testimony in her trial was true.
