Staff reportedly worked last Tuesday, November 17, and are currently in quarantine.
Hale Makua says all employees are regularly screened for COVID-19 symptoms. In addition, staff should wear PPE, practice social distance, and disinfect the surrounding surface.
The facility adds that all residents and staff will be tested this week to ensure that no spread has occurred throughout the campus. Regular tests will be conducted over the next 14 days until all results are negative.
“Our top priority at Hale Makua has always been the safety and care of residents and staff,” said Teana Kaho’ohanohano, administrator of Hale Makua Kahului. “We will call the residents’ families as soon as we are notified that a positive case has been confirmed. In addition, we take responsibility for the Maui community seriously and report any positive cases to the public as soon as possible. It’s not required, but we believe it’s important to publicly share COVID-19 updates to keep families and communities safe and healthy during this pandemic. ”
