Las Vegas (FOX5)-COVID-19 cases are increasing. Now that anyone who works indoors with the general public is supposed to be masked again, how effective is this masking obligation?
Infectious disease expert Brian Labs said employee mask obligations are unlikely to significantly curb the spread of the coronavirus.
Cases and positive rates for COVID-19 have nearly tripled in Clark County since early June. This tends to go hand in hand with the abolition of Maskmandate in Nevada.
“In the CDC guidance, people just gave it up, so I thought it was a step in the wrong direction,” Labs said.
Since the disappearance of mandates, the number of cases has skyrocketed as more contagious delta variants have emerged as a new threat.
“There are new variants and new enemies, and we need to change our strategy to deal with them,” Labus said.
Current rules can protect the general public from illness employees and workplace outbreaks, but cannot stop the epidemic in large-scale events and other crowded areas, according to Labs.
“If there was a big event at Allegiant Stadium, working people would have to wear masks, but not the 65,000 people who attended the event,” Labus said. Really allow sending. “
Labus is also alerting the school. He predicts that only teachers can occur on campus, rather than students wearing masks.
“If you’re in close contact with someone defined as less than 6 feet for more than 15 minutes, you’re in the exact situation with many people sitting in the classroom,” Labus said.
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that students over the age of 2 wear masks. Locally, the Clark County School District requires teachers to wear masks based on new county guidelines, but has not announced plans for students. UNLV and other universities in Clark County follow county guidelines. This means that at this time students can go without a mask.
“The goal is to do whatever we can to stop this pandemic. Without everyone’s vaccinated masks, we can fill that gap,” Labus said.
Employee Maskman Dates will be reassessed when they expire on August 17th.
