Fresno, CA (KFSN)-An explosive day broke out in Fresno City Hall on Thursday. This was caused by a criminal record first reported by Action News.

“Today I don’t say’no more’,” said Fresno city council member Esmeralda Soria. “I want to be the voice of others who suffer from abusive bullying.”

The battle was centered around Daniel Guy, Garry Bredefeld’s current council assistant.

“Garry Bredefeld claims to be strict about crime and support victims of domestic violence during his term at the council,” Soria said. “His hypocrisy is disgusting and funny.”

Prosecutors charged Guy with seven felony charges in May 2019.

He was also convicted of two previous drunk driving, including one in which he injured a person.

He stayed in the city’s salary until last week when he did not challenge the five counts of domestic violence and child abuse.

“(Bredefeld) didn’t fire him,” said Fresno city councilman Tyler Maxwell. “He didn’t punish him. He continued to hire him and paid him nearly $ 250,000 in taxpayer money in two and a half years.”

“The people were not shy to express their thoughts to the leaders of the parliament,” said Vice President Nelson Espalza of the Fresno City Council. “As you know, women are wondering how this can happen. Especially in the very narrow council district here, the history of such annoying behavior is well documented. You may be unknowingly forced to work with someone who has been transformed. The check to work in this building somehow failed us. “

“I believe in the rule of law,” Bredefeld replied. “I believe in due process capabilities and the presumption of innocence, and last week he was tried. He didn’t admit the dispute, so I said,” I can’t work here anymore. ” .. “

Bredefeld on Twitter calls people who have not been convicted of a crime “criminals.”

He hired Guy in 2017 and managed Guy’s employment in the city under current rules.

Mayor Jerry Dyer wants to change it to oversee the investigation and disciplinary action of illegal activity, with the mayor aiming for consistency and perhaps quicker action like the police chief.

“We rarely wait for a criminal investigation to go through the process, as it can take a couple of years,” Dier said.

On his side, Bredefeld continued to attack his fellow councilors.

“These four corrupt gangsters have shown unethical and immoral behavior over the last two and a half years, and I called it,” he said of Soria, Espalza, Maxwell, and Miguel Arias. ..

“Now we are portrayed as gangsters,” Soria said. “So now Mr. Bredefeld is essentially calling us criminals. This is ridiculous.”

“I hope the public isn’t paying attention,” said Mike Carbasi, a Fresno city council member. “It’s not good to see this kind of display.”

The city council passed a new rule on Thursday to prevent retirement benefits for employees who lost their jobs due to a felony conviction.

Bredefeld says Guy never retired.
