Washington DC — In June, an estimated 18 million US adults reported that they were unable to pay their families the medications prescribed by at least one doctor in the last three months. Gallup survey..

This is about 7% of American adults, up from the 6% reported in March. However, during that period, Gallup said that in households with an annual income of less than $ 24,000, that percentage jumped from 10% to 19%, showing a statistically significant increase.

According to Gallup, households with adults under the age of 65 are twice as likely to be unable to pay a prescription as households with at least one elderly person. That is despite the fact that prescription drug usage increases significantly with age.

Gallup also reports that the need for medical care has increased because he couldn’t afford the drug for the past three months.

“Among respondents with three or more chronic illnesses or eight or more prescriptions, 11% and 18% of respondents reported that they couldn’t pay for prescription drugs at home,” Gallup wrote. “Among respondents with no chronic illness and two or less prescription drugs, these household rates drop to 4% and 5%, respectively.”

Also, according to analytics firms, respondents with certain chronic illnesses are generally much more likely to suffer from medication anxiety than adults.

High costs often lead Americans to go without prescription medications. According to Gallup, 10% of Americans have skipped dosing in the last 12 months as a way to save money.

“This rate is fairly high among low-income households. For example, 18% of respondents in households with an annual income of less than $ 48,000 report that they or someone in the household skipped the pill.” Gallup says. “Even among high-income households earning $ 90,000 to $ 180,000, 7% of respondents report skipping pills in the last 12 months.”
