Missouri energy companies began implementing gradual power outages on Monday in response to the overwhelming demand for electricity between record low temperatures and wind chills.
This is because the Southwest Power Pool has declared an Immediately Effective Energy Emergency Alert (EEA) Level 3 for the entire Balancing Authority area in 14 states.
“The overall system’s power generation capacity has fallen below its current load of about 42 GW due to extremely low temperatures and inadequate supply of natural gas,” he said in a tweet on Tuesday.
