Detroit — Former Michigan State University basketball star Keith Appling was charged with first-class murder after killing a 66-year-old man in Detroit on May 22.
The Wayne County Public Prosecutor’s Office announced on Monday that Appling was charged with murder, one felony with possession of a firearm and two with two felony firearms.
Upling’s girlfriend Natalie Banister, 28, has also been charged in connection with the case.
Police said the shooting occurred at Whitcomb Street’s 13240 block around 7 pm.
Police officers arrived home and found 66-year-old Clyde Edmonds having multiple gunshot wounds on the lawn in the front yard.
Edmonds is associated with Appling through marriage.
Investigation revealed that the quarrel over the pistol led to a deadly shooting.
Apring then fled the scene and was later arrested. Apring’s girlfriend is alleged to have driven an escape car.
She is currently charged with one post-incident accessory and one lie to a peace officer.
Appling and Banister’s plea will be announced shortly.
