Minneapolis (AP) —A former Minneapolis police officer who fatally shot an unarmed woman after calling 911 to report potential rape behind her home was sentenced to 57 months in prison. I was told.

The ruling was the longest possible period under Minnesota’s ruling guidelines.

Mohammed Noor was initially convicted of third-class murder and manslaughter at the 2017 death of Justin Lucichik Damond, a dual citizen of the United States and Australia.

At the 2019 trial, Noor testified that he and his partner were driving slowly down the alley because of the devastating impact on the police SUV. He claimed that the woman appeared in the driver’s window, raised her right arm and then fired, stopping what she thought was a threat. Associated Press Report.

Noor was initially sentenced to 12 and a half years in prison for murder in the trial.

However, the Minnesota Supreme Court ruled last month that the third-level murder law did not apply to Noor’s case, abandoning the conviction and condemning manslaughter. The hearing took place on Thursday.

Noor has already been in prison for 29 months, AP reports, and in Minnesota, well-behaved prisoners typically serve two-thirds of their sentence and the rest are released under surveillance.
