Seward, Nebraska (AP) — A former school principal in southeastern Nebraska was sentenced to one year in prison for abusing his students.
Lincoln Journal Star reports that 57-year-old Timothy Deward was sentenced to Seward County District Court on Monday after he did not challenge child abuse in an attempted felony.
He was originally after a teenage student at Centennial Public School reported that during a closed-door meeting at DeWaard’s office, DeWaard sat the student on his lap and DeWarard touched the teenage inner thigh. He was charged with child abuse for serious crimes.
The teenager said DeWaard also asked for a shirtless photo of the student. A teenager told investigators that he had to obey DeWaard’s abuse, or he would fail school.
DeWaard resigned in July 2020.
