A former law enforcement officer has been charged with criminal charges for sexually assaulting a woman who was a resident of his Alvada home.
Wayne Darrell Nelson, 68, was charged with seven charges involving three victims between April 2018 and December 2020, according to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office.
According to a news release, on December 24, 2020, Nelson forcibly groped and solicited a 27-year-old tenant. The accusation further alleges two separate cases of illegal sexual contact with other former roommates.
According to prosecutors, Nelson was charged with both felony charges of attempting sexual assault and illegal sexual contact. He has also been charged with three misdemeanors: solicitation for prostitution, misdemeanor, and illegal sexual contact.
According to the release, the victim was “feared” to report the allegations because of Nelson’s career. Nelson is a former Westminster police officer who worked as an investigator at the District Attorney’s Office from 2008 to 2014 when he resigned. Nelson has taught carrying a class of hidden weapons and a class of feminist self-defense.
The preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 7.
