Milwaukee (AP) — A former Wisconsin pharmacist who deliberately spoiled more than 500 doses of COVID-19 vaccine was sentenced to three years in prison on Tuesday.
Grafton-based Stephen Brandenberg, 46, pleaded guilty to two felony attempts to tamper with consumer products in February. He was in Modana at Grafton’s Aurora Medical Center, just north of Milwaukee. Admitted that he intentionally removed the drug produced by him from the refrigerator for several hours.
In a statement before the ruling, Brandenburg said he felt “very embarrassed” and accepted responsibility for his actions. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that he apologized to his colleagues, family and community.
Aurora destroyed most of the tampered doses, but not before 57 people were vaccinated from supply. According to court documents, these doses are still believed to be effective, but weeks of uncertainty have caused a storm of anger, anxiety, and anguish among recipients.
The prosecutor’s office sentenced him to three years and five months in prison. Brandenburg faced up to 10 years in prison with a fine of $ 250,000 for each felony.
Brandenburg is recognized as a conspiracy theorist who believes that he is a prophet and that vaccines are the product of the devil. He also professed the belief that the Earth is flat and the 9/11 terrorist attacks are fake.
According to court filings, Brandenburg also secretly replaced saline instead of the flu vaccine he was ordered to receive, and secretly replaced saline with some colleagues. Persuaded to exchange for.
