Virginia Beach, Virginia (WAVY) — A video exclusively obtained by the 10 On Your Side research team shows an explosive flight and impact around Virginia Beach exploding.
The explosion damaged a 1800-block house on the River Rock Arch at 10:30 pm on October 27. The mother told Virginia Beach Fire Department investigators that she and her daughter were sitting in their family’s room at the time of the explosion. Located on the same side of the damaged house. According to court records obtained by 10 On Your Side, they heard a big boom, the curtains shook, and they saw sparks and bright lights.
VBFD assessed damage such as holes in the ground about 3 feet away from the house, shattered windows, and broken siding. Evidence was collected from the scene, including three cardboard fins, three D12-15 model rocket engines, masking tape, hot glue, sturdy cardboard, and a hobby fuse. Soil samples are tested by the state of Virginia in forensic medicine to determine the type of explosive used, but fire investigators believe it is a firework or model rocket, court records say. ..
Investigators visited the neighborhood and obtained a copy of the surveillance video showing the explosion. They also spoke with some neighbors who identified the person living in the 1800 block of Onyx Lane as a potential cause of the explosion. According to court records, a utility trailer found outside the house in Onyx Lane was equipped with a blackened PVC pipe with scorched marks that could have been used to launch fireworks and rockets.
No items were collected during the search for Onyx Lane’s house. The people who live there have not been formally charged with crime, so 10 On Your Side will not name them in this report.
