Experts suggest early holiday shopping, beware of returns – Denver, Colorado

Denver — Yvonne Cirger decides to jump on Christmas shopping in mid-October. Consumer advocate Laura Daily says it’s not just sirgers. Experts predict that many products will be in short supply in the weeks leading up to the holiday shopping season.

Daily is already affected.

“People looking at the supply chain think,’Maybe you should get it now,’ because electronic devices, iPads, computers, etc. are advertised but not in stores,” Daily said. Said.

Worried that she wouldn’t get the perfect gift if she waited, Cirger started shopping for Christmas on Friday.

“I bought Dillard’s $ 80 negligee yesterday,” Sager said.

After checking the receipt, Cirger noticed a big problem.

“Returns or exchanges with receipts are only valid for 30 days,” explains Cirger.

In other words, the person who receives the gift cannot return the gift by Thanksgiving, let alone Christmas.

“I decided to return it today. It was a gift to someone in Wyoming for Christmas, and I know there is no way they can return it,” she said. Told.

Denver7 has reviewed some of the major chain policies.

Target and Wal-Mart have a 90-day return policy. Amazon and Macy’s have each changed their holiday return policy to allow purchases made after October to be returned in January.

The return policy for Dillards, Best Buy, Game Stop and Sears is within 45 days. Denver7 contacted companies with shorter policies to see if they could adjust for the holiday season. There is no reply.

“I think smart retailers will adjust their policies accordingly,” Daily said.

Daily recommends asking your manager if you can change your gift policy and reviewing it online before shopping. This is what Cirger is already doing.

“This morning I went shopping at a very famous sporting goods store. Before filling the basket, I asked for a return policy,” said Cirger.
