According to Facebook, the massive leak was due to a 2019 issue and has since been fixed. Still, that data cannot be recovered. With over 30 million accounts affected in the United States, it is not easy to determine if data is included in a breach.
But third party websites, haveibeenpwned.com, You can easily check by entering your email address. For now, it only checks if your email was stolen in them.
This is a pretty big problem. 533 million Facebook accounts were included in the breach, but the stolen data contained only 2.5 million emails. So, if you have a Facebook account, you’re about 20% more likely to be hacked, but less than half as likely to appear on that website.
Troy Hunt, creator of HaveIBeenPwned and security expert, said on Twitter that he was considering adding a phone number.
“The main value of the data is the association of phone numbers with identities. Each record contained a phone, but only 2.5 million email addresses were included,” Hunts Webb said. The site states.
This data is from 2019, but it could be valuable to hackers and cybercriminals engaged in spoofing crimes.
Facebook didn’t immediately reply to CNN on Monday as to whether it would create a way to see if the information was leaked.
