There are multiple UNO connections on this year’s list of 10 outstanding young Omahan.

Dr. Christine Cutucache, Director of the Hadix Community Chair of Science, UNO’s STEM TRAIL Center, and Associate Professor of Biology, is one of the 10 TOYO Winners of the Year.

Each year, Omaha Jacey recognizes young experts in the Omaha community who have made a difference at the “10 Outstanding Omaha” (TOYO!) Awards. This year, UNO stands out, with 6 of the 10 recipients of the year being Mavericks or related to UNO-led projects.

The award recognizes individuals between the ages of 21 and 40 and sets an example of how they can improve the Omaha community through selfless and kind actions, while making outstanding achievements in their professional careers. I am.

Dr. Christine Cutucache, a UNO faculty member, Haddix Community Chair of Science, Director of UNO’s STEM TRAIL Center, and Associate Professor of Biology are among the winners of the year.

“It’s a great honor to be selected as TOYO !,” said Cutucache. : Thank you for contributing to this wonderful city through a meaningful partnership. We also want to continue to address the workforce needs surrounding STEM. “

In addition to working at the STEM TRAIL Center, Cutucache has established the popular Nebraska STEM 4U program to involve young people in STEM-focused out-of-school activities. She is also a trained oncology immunologist, has published over 35 peer-reviewed treatises, and has received a Fulbright grant.

According to Cutucache, her goal is to stop the “brain drain” in Nebraska by stimulating her love for STEM and her passion for college-related startup projects and business development.

“I want all students to have the opportunity to become scientists at least three times a week across the state and get hands-on work,” says Cutucache.
