Blue Springs, Missouri — One of the biggest travel weekends of the year, families across the country are facing record high gas prices.
David Fischer, a Minneapolis resident, visited Lake Giacomo on a Fifth Wheel RV and said he needed to double his gas budget.
“Yes, it’s expensive, because all major truck stops are like $ 5.30 to $ 5.40 per gallon,” Fisher said.
Fisher is in town to take part in a battle model plane contest. It’s an event he’s always been looking forward to, and he said it’s worth the extra charge to be able to attend.
“It’s a kind of vacation for me,” Fisher said.
He said such a short trip is of little value in his RV at current gas prices, but the trip is also about the chance to meet good friends and rejuvenate.
“Because we’ve been working together for a long time, it was just crazy to escape everything, so you can go out and you can get some fun with your friends, you You’re outside, you’re blessed with beautiful weather, every time you come here, you come here, “Fisher said.
Lake Giacomo is also the long-awaited family reunion this weekend.
Katie Chris and her husband from Blue Springs get their stay on a quiet lakeside while the family is traveling from other states.
“It’s hard to see people in a way other than Zoom, Facetime, or just virtual,” Chris said. “It was really nice to get together and meet in person and see how much everyone, especially the little ones, grew up.”
Whether people are enjoying a long weekend near the ocean or preparing to fight other model planes, the weekend should be unforgettable.
“There will be genocide and destruction, which will be a good time,” Fisher laughed.
