Family feared losing home to Creek Fire, now they fear for daughter’s health if they return – Fresno, California

Fresno, California 2020-11-21 02:36:39 –

Meadow Lakes, CA (KFSN)-Jessica Alvarez and her family haven’t returned to Meadow Lakes’ home since the creek fire forced them to evacuate.

Her 7-year-old daughter, Aria, has rare bone marrow conditions and lung problems, so while the family’s house is still standing, toxic ashes inside and outside are too dangerous to take a young girl home. I can’t go home.

“We have hygienists coming out, people repairing the house coming in and no one can guarantee that it’s safe. There was ashes and the devastation was really great,” says Alvarez. “I think we’re in a place no one has ever been to. No hope. No help.”

She reached out to everyone she could think of to get help-local civil servants, state legislatures.

She also met with Governor Gavin Newsom and the newly elected Vice President Kamala Harris.

The kind words gave me hope, but Alvarez is still waiting for help.

“Who would the Governor of California fail to help us?” She says.

Fresno County overseer Nathan Magsig admits that this is a unique situation.

FEMA assistance usually requires families to meet specific requirements.

“With individual support from FEMA, someone needs to own a house that has been lost or damaged in a fire,” says Magsig.

State legislature Jim Paterson said his staff is also working with the California Insurance Commission on the case, but no answer has yet been obtained to help the family.

“We have a unique situation that can be solved by this temporary insurance that a fair plan should be made. We will continue to knock on the door on her behalf to get the answer,” he said. Says.

The family feels like there is no place to turn.

But 7-year-old Aria still wants a place for her to call home again soon.
